the fbi on paula broadwell. >> that's right. this is another bizarre twist. the fbi agent you just mentioned has now been removed from sending revealing pictures of himself to that whistle-blower. the scandal is growing. and it's resolving around the actions of paula broadwell. it really is just one day, more stories leaking out. we'll try to clear it all up for you. >> it just continues to mushroom. our senior affairs correspondent martha raddatz starts out our full coverage from washington. she's been reporting on both generals for a decade. martha, this was stunning news after midnight. >> reporter: it's true. the scandal is more stunning every day. now, under investigation, the commander who replaced david petraeus in afghanistan, marine corps general john allen, who has apparently been exchanging e-mails with the woman at the center of the petraeus affair. this morning, the fbi probe into david petraeus' affair appears to have also ensnared his successor in afghanistan. the pentagon has now launched an investigation into, quote, potentially inappropriate e-mails between genera
, the fbi involved in the whole thing because she said that she was receive ofing harassing e-mails from this women, petraeus's biographer and ex-mistress, paula broadwell. bill: got all that? martha: i think so, you need a pen. catherine herridge is live in d.c.. tell us where we are today on the investigation. where is it. >> reporter: thank you, bill and good morning. so far virtually every publicly threat in the case leads back to jill kelly, a woman described as this unpaid social liaison for the military in tampa, florida. this morning it is alleged the commander of international forces in afghanistan, or isaf, general john allen, sent between 20 and 30,000 pages to kelly. e-mail traffic described as potentially inappropriate nature. it was jill kelly who alert ad fbi agent what she believed were harassing e-mails from the paula broadwell, the biographer and mistress of general david petraeus. it was investigation of kelly's complaints that ultimately forced resignation of general petraeus last week. spokesman george little gave a brief statement on general allen's status. >> while
friendly relationships with top military brass. the fbi traced those e-mails back to paula broadwell's computer, where they discovered the evidence of broadwell's affair with david petraeus. but it doesn't stop there. abc news has learned that general allen also received an anonymous e-mail traced to paula broadwell, painting jill kelley as a seductress. a further look by the fbi into kelley's e-mails revealed hundreds between kelley and allen, 20,000 to 30,000 pages of communications in all. but a source familiar with the e-mails say they contain no evidence of a sexual relationship, something allen strongly denied. instead, the e-mails are described as friendly, perhaps flirty, but routine, mostly about meetings with ambassadors and dinner parties. in one note kelley tells the general she saw him on tv. he responds, "thanks, dear, you're a sweetheart." many e-mails were from kelley to general allen's wife. the two couples were good friends. >> until someone proves otherwise, i believe that he did nothing inappropriate. >> reporter: today the white house says the president obama sti
